This special skyscraper will be a big attraction for Shanghai, with many areas for visitors ...
Shanghai Tower is not terminated yet, but already reached the 632 meters, becoming the tallest skyscraper in Shanghai and one of the highest in the world. Shanghai Tower (in the Lujiazui financial business area in Pudong District) is even more spectacular as it is located next to two other supertall skyscrapers, the Jin Mao Tower (88-storey, 420 meters high, from 1999 to 2007 the tallest in China) and the Shanghai World Financial Center (101 floors, 492 meters high, at that time the tallest skyscraper in China). For the Shanghai Tower, now a lot of work remains to be done on the interior and exterior decorations, but the structure has already reached its final height. The construction of the Shanghai Tower began in 2008, the building will be completed and become operational within about 1 year.
Areas for visitors with 360 degree views on Shanghai
Designed by Gensler, the US famous architectural firm, the tower is 137 floors high. Inside will host a 5-star hotel, offices, shops, commercial spaces, conference areas, convention rooms, restaurants, fast food, bars, as well as various entertainment facilities. The skyscraper is part of a larger project, which aims to impose more and more Shanghai as an international financial center and free trade zone, also to increase Chinese and foreign investments. In addition to this within Shanghai Tower there will be nine areas that will make good as a public space for visitors. In each of these nine zones the visitors will can have a 360 degree view over Shanghai, but there are also bars, restaurants, gardens and many commercial spaces. When it opened, the skyscraper will be able to accommodate more than 16 thousand people every day. There will be also modern elevators able to travel 100 storeys in one minute (18 meters per second). At the base of the building there will be areas for events, in the underground zone there will be a parking capable of accommodating 1800 vehicles.
Modern example of green architecture
The Shanghai Tower was built with modern techniques of green architecture. Although the majority of electricity will be supplied from traditional sources in the upper part of the building there are wind turbines that can generate about 350,000 kWh of supplementary electricity per year. The double layer of glass walls allow substantial savings in the operations of heating and refrigeration. For heating and cooling the building will be used geothermal energy sources. In the construction of the building was used a new type of glass with high tolerance for temperature variations.
But in Changsha someone is already thinking of doing a 838 meters tall skyscraper ...
Besides Shanghai, many other Chinese cities are building tall buildings. A Suzhou and Wuhan will be built skyscrapers of about 700 meters. Other high-rise buildings are under construction in Shenyang (520 meters), in Chongqing (470 meters). The tallest skyscraper will be to Changsha (838 meters). |
