Shanghai accelerates customs clearance with new measures
|
17-Feb-2003 - |
The Shanghai customs will emphasize paperless customs clearance, advance customs declarations and cooperation with its counterparts this year to accelerate customs clearance, said Lu Peijun, director of the Shanghai customs, recently. At present, in Shanghai, average customs clearance time is about six hours, much less than the figures of two years ago: 103 hours for imports and 35 hours for exports on average, surveys show. Shanghai-based companies praise the improved efficiency since it helps reduce their costs in foreign trade. In Songjiang District's manufacturing center alone, nearly 2.05 billion US dollars of foreign trade was carried out last year, six times the amount two years ago. The efficiency is a result of several measures taken by the Shanghai customs. According to statistics, by the end of last year,a total of 660 companies had used electronic data exchange, or paperless procedures, and presently, advance declaration is being implemented for one-fourth of the goods passing through the Shanghai customs. |
