Shanghai bids for 2007 Special Olympics

Shanghai has submitted its bid to the International Special Olympics Committee (ISOC) for the 2007 Summer Special Olympic Games. According to an official from the city's press office, an evaluation panel from the ISOC will have an inspection tour of the city in March and the city will send a group to London in late April to give a report in ISOC's board meeting. The Special Olympics, which was inaugurated more than 30 years ago, has been held every two years. To be exact, the summer and winter games is scheduled every other two years. Up to now there have been 10 games for summer and seven for winter. The 11th summer games will be held in Dublin, Ireland next year, the first time the summer games is held outside the United States. Should Shanghai win the right to host the games in 2007, it could be the first time that the event is held in Asia. |
