An official from the city of Shanghai has invited businesses in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to take part in coordinating the Shanghai Expo 2010. Wang Junyi, deputy director of the Shanghai Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission, extended his invitation during a speech at a luncheon organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce recently. "With Hong Kong's extensive experience in dealing with external affairs, coupled with its well-developed service industry, plenty of business opportunities await Hong Kong in the process of coordinating the Shanghai Expo 2010," Wang said, citing Hong Kong's financial industry and public relations and exhibition services industry. He said he will contact the HKSAR business community again once full details are worked out. The Shanghai Expo 2010, which is estimated to be visited by some 70 million people, will help raise the cultural standard of the people and promote cultural exchange between nations, Wang said. Wang has also extended his invitations to developing countries, saying that the event is an "catalyst for social and economic developments." At the moment, the official investment in the event amounts 300,000 US dollars, but it is expected to snowball to 1.5 to 3.5 million US dollars through foreign investment. |
