Shenyang to house world's largest emerald Buddha figure

The world's largest emerald Buddha figure will find a home in this capital of northeast China' s Liaoning Province, sources said. The seven-ton Maitreya (Laughing) Buddha figure, which has received a certificate from the Shanghai Office of the Guinness Book of Records testifying that it is the biggest of its kind in the world, arrived here Saturday, and will be housed in the Cuihualou Jewelry Store, situated in the city's traditional downtown area. It took a whole year for the country's 11 leading jade carvers to complete the two-meter-high figure. The Cuihualou Jewelry Store spent 12 million yuan having the statue made.(xinhua)(12/17/2001) |
