The International Snow Sculpture Art Expo opened in the Sun Island Scenic Area of Harbin, capital city of China's northeast Heilongjiang Province, on Tuesday as the city counts down to its annual ice and snow festival slated to open on January 5.
The centerpiece of the expo is the 27-meter-high "Swan Girl" snow sculpture in the shape of a young girl with a 24-meter wingspread.
The expo also features a snow sculpture of the famous oil painting "Barge Haulers on the Volga" or "Burlaki" by Russian artist Ilya Yafimovich Repin. With the expo's focus on Russian culture this year, the event is being hosted by Harbin and its sister cities in Russia.
This year's 28th ice and snow festival marks the beginning of the China-Russia Tourism Year and features entertainment programs and trade fairs with Russian participants.
The expo runs from December 20, 2011 to February 29, 2012. Tickets to the Sun Island Scenic Area cost 240 yuan per person. |
