Standard Chartered, BEA to raise interest rates

Standard Chartered Bank and the Bank of East Asia announced Monday that they're raising their best lending rate by a quarter of a percentage point, to 5.5 percent, local radio station reported. The report said both banks are also increasing their Hong Kong dollar savings rate from 0.25 percent to 0.5 percent. The increase, which is effective from Wednesday, follows the recent decision by the US Federal Reserve to increase its rates, the radio station said. |
