Supermarkets Available to Rural Tibetans

Tibetan government commences a project this year, to set up supermarkets in villages of pasturing areas, framing the consume grid in rural Tibet.
According to the plan, 200 supermarkets will be established in rural areas, supplying daily commodities, food and agricultural goods.
At present, many large and medium-sized supermarkets enjoying assuring merchandise have spread their chain stores in pasturing areas.
In Lhoka and other areas in Tibet, village supermarkets have begun to take shapes and are popular among locals as the rich variety, good quality and convenience.
Chinese Ministry of Commerce implemented the project on building rural supermarkets in 2005 nationwide, and strives for making the supermarkets popular among over 85 percent of townships and 65 percent of administrative villages at the end of the 11th "Five-Year Plan" period. |
