The Ergun: A River of Dedication
|
01-Oct-2011 - Global Times |

The Ergun River, located in the northern part of Hulun Buir prairie in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is considered the mother river of the Mongolian ethnic group.
The river's name means "dedication" in the Mongolian language. It is the lifeline for 16 ethnic groups who inhabit nearby areas. Overlooking Russia on the opposite side of its banks, the Ergun River is also a key destination for cross-border tourism.
The city of Ergun is home to a well-preserved natural rangeland, 20,000 square kilometers of virgin forest and wetlands that are considered the best in Asia. The city's landscapes have distinguished features in the four seasons, making it a popular sightseeing destination. |
