|
19-Jan-2005 - Xinhua |
Three new highway bridges opened to traffic Tuesday, facilitating traffic flow between Hong Kong and the inland. Construction began on the three projects at the end of 2003, with investment from Hong Kong and neighboring Shenzhen, a booming city in Guangdong Province. One highway bridge, connecting Huanggang Port in Shenzhen and Lalok Machau Port in Hong Kong, cost 182 million yuan (21.93 million US dollars). It is 190 meters long and 23 meters wide with four lanes in each direction. The Sha Tau Kok highway bridge connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen cost 22 million yuan (2.65 million US dollars), and will be used exclusively by automobiles driving from Hong Kong to Shenzhen. The old one will serve for automobiles driving in the opposite direction. The Lo Wu pavement was broadened by 3.5 meters to 16.6 meters with 68 million yuan (8.19 million US dollars) of investment. Two other projects connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen are still under construction. They are expected to be completed in 2006. |
