19-Aug-2005 - Xinhua |
In interesting news for investors in China, the list of the top 500 Chinese enterprises was announced on Thursday. The state-owned oil giant Sinopec came in top of the list, with a revenue of 634 billion Yuan, or 78 billion US dollars.
Other companies in the top 10 include the State Power Grid, PetroChina, China Mobile, and ICBC Bank. According to the list, the total revenue of China's top 500 enterprises makes up 11.7 trillion yuan, or 1.4 trillion US dollars, accounting for 86 percent of total gross domestic product.
The profit, revenue and asset growth of these firms in more than double that of global top 500 companies. In addition, the lowest revenue of a company on the list is much higher than last year's figure. Analysts say it is attributed to the government's policies that encourage competition on the global market.
