Tourism Back in the Black in Shenzhen
|
2-Dec-2004 - |
Shenzhen tourism has turned around with a record 42.64 million tourists visiting the city from January to October this year, an increase of almost 25 percent over the same period last year. Tourist venues attracted 20.08 million people during the same period, an increase of almost 27 percent, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Wednesday, quoting the Shenzhen Municipal Tourism Bureau. The number of tourists visiting the city in January hit 5.136 million, of which 2.128 million visited tourist spots. Shenzhen had 3.13 million tourists during the May Day holidays and 2.233 million during the National Day holidays. Even in the heat of August, there were a total of 2.889 million visitors, the report said. The only new tourist attraction in Shenzhen is the Fifth China International Landscape and Flora Exposition Park. The tourism turnaround was attributed to more relatives and friends visiting migrant residents and a number of city government-sponsored promotional activities, said the report. Meanwhile, the State Tourism Administration on Monday reminded travel agencies to submit quality guarantee fees before Dec. 31. The fees had been returned to agencies last year during the SARS outbreak to help tourism cushion the influence of the epidemic, the report said. SARS had a severe negative influence on the countrya?s tourism last year. |
