Tung: HK maintains economic growth
|
19-Jan-2005 - China Radio International |
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa says the SAR government will continue to improve its policy to maintain Hong Kong's economic growth momentum in the coming years. Addressing a business meeting, Tung Chee-hwa says Hong Kong's economy is at its best stage of development since the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. He says the local government is making full efforts to develop the economy over the next two and a half years, and the economy should try to maintain its world leading position. "The good news is that we are in the front. The bad news is others are trying to catch up with us. What we need to be doing is to have a concentrated focus to look forward to understand what are our competitive advantages, what are our weaknesses, and keep on moving forward," said Tung. He also says along with economic development, the SAR government will extend help and support to people in need, such as giving children in poor families an equal education opportunity. |
