A total of 767,000 visitors arrived in Singapore in January this year, posting an increase of 14.8 percent over the same month of last year, according to the figures released by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Tuesday.
The number of visitor arrivals from South Korea jumped 99 percent in January from a year ago, the highest figure for the month, while the Chinese mainland, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, the Philippines and Taiwan also saw double-digit growth in the number of visitors to Singapore.
Of the total, 82,000 visitors came from the Chinese mainland, up 78 percent from a year ago, while the number of visitors from Indonesia rose by 4 percent to reach 152,000 last month.
The Chinese mainland and Indonesia, together with Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan, were Singapore's top five visitor-generating markets for the month, which accounted for 51 percent of the total visitor arrivals.
Hotels in Singapore were estimated to register 98 million Singapore dollars (about 60 million U.S. dollars) in room revenue in January, up 11.7 percent as compared with the corresponding month of last year.
