entry, The People's Daily reports.
An unnamed source with The Chinese Ministry of Commerce referred to the report on Sunday. The source quotes Director general of the WTO, Pascal Lamy, as saying the nation has entered into a critical stage in fulfilling its WTO duties. Other member states of the organization have been encouraged by its performance so far.
Over the past few years, China has become a power house of the world economy. It is seen as both benefiting the world while pushing forward in its own economic growth.
China has demonstrated a strong determination to fulfill its duties and has never pulled back from this stance, the report said, quoting the former director general of the WTO, Mr. Supachai.
China has amended over 2,000 pieces of legislation and administrative decrees since its accession to the WTO. It has abolished more than 800 laws and regulations, extended its range of industries and expanded geographical regions open to foreign competition, the report also said.
The country has reduced its overall tariff level to as low as 9.9%, in full compliance with its commitment of tariff reduction for 2005.
