The forthcoming World Carnival Hong Kong, the largest carnival touring around the world, is expected to attract more than 2 million visitors and create around 450 local job opportunities, said the Invest Hong Kong here Thursday (Dec.5). The world carnival, organized through a joint venture between UK Funfairs Ltd and Hong Kong-based World Carnival Ltd, will take place at the apron of the former Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon City between December 14, 2002 and February 9, 2003. Invest HK has provided direct practical assistance to and facilitated the implementation of this investment project. The carnival, featuring about 130 rides, games and attractions covering an area of over 46,000 square meters, will involve foreign investment of over 100 million Hong Kong dollars (12.8 million US dollars). Explaining why Hong Kong was chosen as the venue, a manager from the World Carnival Ltd said, "We chose Hong Kong because there is growing popularity for amusement centers among the younger generation in the region." "We also see Hong Kong as a launch pad for expansion into China and other Asian countries," he added. Following Hong Kong, the carnival will move to GuangZhou in March 2003. Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong Mike Rowse officially welcomed the World Carnival. He said, "The carnival will be a top entertainment highlight throughout the Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year festive seasons. It will provide an exciting venue for Hong Kong people to spend their leisure time, and also offer an additional attraction for our overseas visitors." "Bringing new and innovative entertainment concepts like the World Carnival to Hong Kong clearly enhances our city's cosmopolitan lifestyle. It also represents a significant investment and a boost for the local economy," he said. |
