10-Nov-2001 - |
Microsoft China unveiled its simplified Chinese version of Windows XP, the highly anticipated version of the Windows operating system, for the Chinese mainland market Friday in Beijing. The Chinese version boasts enhanced Internet and digital media capabilities, and the improvements that increase efficiency and provide both business and home users with an easy-to-use experience have been made, said Jack Gao, president of Microsoft China. By linking personal computers, devices and services together on the Windows 2000 platform, the system enables users to acquire, organize and share their digital photos; store and play back high-quality digital music; and enjoy instant messaging with voice and video capabilities. "The Chinese version features mobility multimedia, compatibility and increased security and stability," Gao said. "To simply put it, the version is the best operating system Microsoft has ever built for Chinese customers." Microsoft will work closely with major PC manufacturers in China to ensure their most advanced hardware solutions fully complement the new operating system, Gao added. A roadshow will travel to 17 key cities in China including Shenyang, Nanjing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, GuangZhou and Shanghai to allow more users in the country to experience the digital experience of Windows XP. To meet the needs of secure data transfer of key industries, State-owned China National Computer Software & Technology Service Corp will develop an encryption module on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The performance improvements and advanced features of Windows XP are the culmination of more than 15 years of research, development and customer feedback. The Microsoft China Research & Development Centre worked to enhance the Chinese feature of the new product, which supports some 27,000 Chinese characters and national technical standards. |
