I was very satisfied with the comfort levels of the room (it was well heated and clean). To be honest, the hotel is really not ideally located near the airport, so I had to give a low score for that. In addition, there is not a lot to do there in the way of entertainment and restaurants. There is little you can do about those things, but you can add points to your amusement score by adding a few inexpensive amenities. The biggest sticking point (for me and many other business travelers), is the use of the internet service. Your internet service is horrendous. Your courteous technician tried his best to gain me access to the simplest of items, like Gmail at Google and my personal fantasy basketball account at CBSsports.com. Forget about accessing my hosting company at godaddy.com (my site is askmrmovies.com). I could only access the home page of almost every site I visited. There was no navigation available to pages within any of the sites. Your internet service is obviously set up for Chinese clients who want to use Baidu instead of Google and QQ instead of Gmail. This is fine, as long as you don't expect to have any Western business clients; otherwise, they will be horrified by your internet access. This problem does not exist in other Chinese cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Wenzhou and all the other cities where I have accessed everything but Facebook and Twitter, which I know are banned by the government and not your ISP's fault. If you want more Western business customers, you will have to upgrade your ISP.
The food menu for Westerners left a little to be desired as it contained absolutely no Western entrees. However, the Chinese food was good and well-prepared and the prices were reasonable. I would strongly recommend having at least a basic hamburger/cheeseburger dish with french fries available to Western customers (a good quality one; not the garbage they serve in McDonalds. A Western will gladly pay 80 RM for a good cheeseburger and fries with a coke. That is more than some of your good Chinese entrees. There was little in the way of amusements. You might consider having a billiards room and/or a piano room for guests with little upgrading cost from your end. Your breakfast was a bit more Westernized, but you had no spoons available to eat the cereal (Westerners do not use chopsticks or forks to eat cereal). Also your toaster is obsolete and it burned four pieces of bread while I was there. You need to upgrade that item immediately. Your sausages are boiled or broiled. Westerners like their sausages brown and well done. You might want to try the sausage patties that they serve in fast-food breakfast places. They would not increase your costs and would be far more attractive to your clients. Also, your breakfast meats and potatoes (which were quite good), were served cold. This is always a problem at most buffets, but if you could keep a very low flame on the potatoes and breakfast meats to keep them warm, it would increase your breakfast score by a point. Your chef did not know how to make well-done sunnyside eggs that are dark brown on the bottom (crispy), but hte yolks are still in tact on the top. I clearly asked for that style of eggs, but he broke the yolks the first time and prepared them over easy. Then on the second order, he undercooked the eggs, but kept the yolks in tact. There should be no rush in preparing a client's eggs. The coffee machine is not cost effective for you and the quantity of the coffee is sub-standard. You need modern coffee cannisters with both regular and decaf coffee. Very simpe and cost effective. Milk should be available to put in the coffee at the coffee table, not the cereal table. I rated your hotel 3 and a half stars out of 5 based on the excellent and courteous staff and the cleanliness of both your eateries and your rooms. Keep up the good work.

There was no effort from staff to advise them about the bad habit. It is also bad manners because they will touch the walls , lifts othe places with dirty hands. Otherwise we loved the food.
The hotel must make an effort to have more staff speaking English.

To be improved:
1. The PC in the room should be able to be operated in English. It is operated in Chinese currently, this is inconvenient for international visitors.
2. You should have map of Shanghai in English for international guests (could be also not complimentary) and some info about the sightseeings in Shanghai.

The only light is behind me. So I did not have much light in my face for shaveing.
Check in: At the check in they gave me a "Non Smoking" room. I did not ask for this.
The first room they gave me did NOT have a WINDOW in the bedroom. There was only a small window in a side room behind some walls around the corner.
PLUS: They changed me the room very easy and uncomplicated. This would not be so easy if there would have been many people at the rception. But it was not at this time, so I was happy.
Check out: They did not give me the wakeup call at 05:00 as ordered. There was also no taxi reservation at 06:00 as I ordered, but was no problem at this time.
WARNING ! I have seen a leak in the shower room glass-wall behind the toilet. I have seen some water coming out towards the toilet bowl. Not a problem now but may get worst in future. |
