AIDS awareness to be taught in schools

Classes to educate school children on the prevention of AIDS, the dangers of narcotics, and environmental protection will begin in Chinese schools in the spring semester, the Beijing Morning News reported recently. That was the decision made by the Chinese Ministry of Education, said the newspaper. The newspaper quoted ministry sources as saying that it had sent forth the guidelines about the three specialized classes. According to the guidelines, an average of two classes should be arranged to teach AIDS prevention from seventh to 11th graders each school year, and an average of two more classes on the dangers of narcotics for fifth to 11th graders should also be arranged. An average of four classes should be arranged to teach awareness of environmental protection from the first to 11th graders. The ministry also warned that no organization or individual was allowed to add to students' burdens or force students to buy study materials under the pretext of the three specialized classes. |
