Airfare Increases for Holiday
|
27-Sep-2004 - |
A growing number of vacationers and persons returning home have driven up airfares ahead of the National Day holiday. The Beijing Youth Post reports that because the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on September 28 this year, is very close to the National Day holiday, passenger volumes in aviation centers such as Beijing, Shanghai and GuangZhou are expected to be much higher than last year. Many passengers travel ahead of the scheduled holiday period, so the peak period for air-ticket bookings has already arrived. As a result, airfares are increasing every day, with no discounts available for some flights. However, the Ministry of Railways says train ticket prices during the forthcoming National Day holiday will not increase. Nearly 38 million passengers are expected to travel by train during the weeklong holiday, with a peak of 4.3 million passengers predicted for October 1st. The supply of railway seats and tickets is expected to meet demand, and ticket agents are gearing up for the travel boom, enabling passengers to buy tickets 24 to 48 hours in advance. |
