Beijing Strives to Improve Investment Environment
|
29-May-2002 - |
Beijing will attach greater importance to improving the investment environment in a bid to attract more foreign investors, said Beijing Mayor Liu Qi recently. Speaking at the opening of an annual meeting of international consultants to the municipality, Liu said that local government would take various measures to serve foreign businesses more efficiently and further improve living and working conditions. China's accession into the World Trade Organization and Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games marked a new stage in the economic development and opening-up drive of Beijing, according to Liu. Local sources say that Beijing will apply more high and new technology in upgrading local industries and attract more multinational corporations to set up headquarters and branches in the city. Seventeen chairpersons, presidents and chief executive officers of multinational corporations attended the meeting, providing suggestions from a global perspective relating to economic development. |
