Beijing Tightens Traffic Control During National Day Holiday
|
24-Sep-2004 - |
The seven-day National Day holiday is getting nearer, and many people have plans to go sightseeing in or around Beijing. But some advice for drivers: carefully choose your way if you want to drive out, because Beijing will tighten traffic control during the holidays to avoid big jams. The main areas subject to traffic control will be the Tiananmen Square, Jingshan (Coal Hill) area, the Summer Palace and the Fragrant Hills area, and also the Badaling expressway, where cars will have to follow certain routes at certain times of day. Cars to the Summer Palace will also have to apply for a special license to drive through that area in advance. It's expected that the city's traffic system will have to hold 130 million people, a 12 percent increase over the same period last year. |
