Beijing sings Olympic tune
|
24-Dec-2003 - |
The 2008 Olympics may still be five years away, but China's capital city has already got the highly£anticipated sports meeting off to a rolling start. In its latest announcement on Drc.22, the Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee unveiled the country's first seven Olympic songs. The performance opened with the song "A Rendezvous of Hearts". The first seven Olympic songs are the best from hundreds of tunes received by the Organizing Committee from April to late October. Over the past months, about 300 eligible entries have been scrutinized by the country's top musicians before seven were finally picked up and produced. Japanese musician Kitaro was invited to arrange an uplifting song titled "Competition of the Human Race". The organizing committee plans to hold this musical selection annually in coming years. The activity doesn't aim to produce the 2008 Olympics theme song, but to get the public involved in preparations for the grand event and to popularize the Olympic spirit. |
