Beijing to Hold 2004 World Toilet Summit

Beijing has won the bid to hold the 2004 world toilet summit. According to the Beijing Times, President of the World Toilet Society (WTS) Shen Yuehua said, Beijing became a favorite of the 2001 Singapore WTS committees by showing documentaries of Beijing's much improved toilets. An official with the Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau said they will continue upgrading Beijing toilets in the next three years asstipulated in an agreement with the WTS. The official said Beijing plans to build a total of 741 star toilets in 148 scenic spots in the coming three years. A total of 50 million yuan (US$ 6.02 million) will be invested to build 250 star toilets this year. He also said the toilet summit will bring advanced toilet technology and management. |
