12-Jan-2006 - Xinhuanet |
The Chinese capital has set a goal to increase the total assets of its state-owned enterprises to 1 trillion yuan (123 billion U.S. dollars) by 2010, according to the city's top supervisor of state-owned assets.
Xiong Daxin, director of the municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, said Thursday that the goal can be reached through optimizing the structure of state assets and promoting innovation of state-owned enterprises.
In an ambitious five-year blueprint, the municipal government pledges to speed up the establishment of large enterprise groups with strong competitiveness in the global market.
Xiong said Beijing will boost measures to develop infrastructure, public services and modern manufacturing, whereby enterprises in these areas will account for 80 percent of the city's total state-owned assets by 2010.
Riding on the back of the 2008 Olympic games, the city plans to accelerate the development of sports, tourism and cultural industries.
The government is urging local leading enterprises to invest more in technical innovation and reduce energy consumptions. Energy cost for per unit gross domestic product (GDP) should be lowered by 25 percent in the coming five years, it said.
