Xi welcomed Bayar, who came to attend the closing ceremony of the Olympics and congratulated the Mongolian athletic team on making a historic breakthrough at the Games.

Mongolia's Tuvshinbayar Naidan beat Askhat Zhitkeyev of Kazakhstan in the men's 100kg class judo on Aug. 14, winning Mongolia's first gold medal in 44 years.

Xi said China valued the ties with Mongolia and would like to deepen cooperation.

Bayar congratulated China on hosting a successful Olympics.

"The development of ties with China is the top priority of Mongolia's foreign policy," Bayar said. "Mongolia would like to work more closely with China to further advance bilateral ties."

On the same day, Bayar, also head of the ruling Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), met with Wang Jiarui, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Wang, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the CPC stressed friendly cooperative relations with the MPRP, and wished a stable Mongolian political situation, economic growth and happy lives of people.

Bayar said a successful Beijing Olympics depicted the great achievements China had made in its economic and social development, which the Mongolian people were happy to see.

Exchanges between ruling parties of Mongolia and China were an important motivation for partnership with mutual trust, and the MPRP would like to continue to deepen friendly contacts and cooperation, said Bayar.
