China to discuss more flights from HK
|
6-Feb-2004 - |
China will allow more flights between Hong Kong and mainland destinations, a General Administration for Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) official says, according to local news reports. CAAC air transport division executive, Mr Li Jiangmin, said meetings to discuss the issue would be held this month. Carriers will then state what routes they wish to fly. That is likely to be a lengthy wish-list. Whatever happens, the industry expects significant liberalisation, sources say. Mr Li was quoted in newspapers here as saying liberalisation was the way forward and that more flights were needed to meet soaring demand. Cathay Pacific wants to boost its current three weekly flights to Beijing to three every day, and the same access to Shanghai. Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines wants more services to Hong Kong; and from Hong Kong to other cities in the region. |
