China to increase ship engine exports
|
24-Jan-.2005 - Xinhua |
China will export ship engines with a total value of 160 billion yuan (US$19.32 billion), according to a contract signed Sunday. The contract was signed in Beijing between the Shaanxi Diesel Engine Heavy Industry Co LTD, and the Dalian Shipyard Co LTD and Dalian New shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co LTD, two large shipbuilding companies in Northeast China's Liaoning Province. The two shipbuilding companies have agreed with Rickmers-Linie Companies of Germany to sell the latter ten 4250 TEU container ships. Usually, ships that China exports use engines made by foreign companies, which means China just sells "ship shells" to foreigners. However, this contract said the Shaanxi Diesel Engine Heavy Industry Co LTD will produce diesel engines for the ten ships, with a total power of 68,000 kilowatt. But the technology that will be used was still bought from Man B & W Diesel Gmbh, a German company. |
