BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Chinese Taipei badminton team said here on Monday that the team would try to make a breakthrough at the incoming Olympic Games.
With the pair of Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing and women's singles player Cheng Shao-Chieh at disposal, it is almost certain that Chinese Taipei could achieve better results than ever at the Games, said Cheng Junyan.
Chinese Taipei shuttlers' best Olympic result was a quarterfinal finish.
"Now I don't put pressure on them, the boys and girls will do better without pressure," said Cheng.
The Chinese Taipei team arrived in Beijing on Sunday and began training on Monday. They will compete in three disciplines, namely men's singles, women's singles and doubles.
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing rank 5th in the world and are expected to fight Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen, the world's number two, at the quarterfinals.
Cheng Shao-Chieh, with a 25th world ranking, faces number one Xie Xingfang in the first round.
"Cheng has a chance to win though Xie is in a better class," said the head coach.
Cheng beat Xie in May last year at the Indonesia Open. |
