Chinese agencies get TAT¡¯s quality label

More than 20 mainland Chinese travel agencies received the approval of the Tourism Authority of Thailand¡¯s (TAT) to use its Quality Warranty Logo ¨C an endorsement of Thailand¡¯s high-quality tourism products. TAT see this development as a way of encouraging China¡¯s travel agencies to improve their offerings of Thai tourism products. ¡°Zero-fare tours¡± have been damaging Thailand¡¯s image so we are taking measures to change this,¡± said Satit Nillwongse, executive director of international markets promotion department, during his trip to Beijing last Friday. The agencies that have signed up will follow TAT¡¯s regulations such as greater transparency in the costs of tourism products and agency services for the tourists and TAT. Other regulations include a time limit on shopping. Meanwhile, TAT will support the agencies in their advertising of Thailand. ¡°We are happy to see TAT¡¯s continuing effort to enhance travel quality of Thailand. It¡¯s time to regulate the market. Thailand is paying for its image as a cheap destination, ¡° said Fang Fang, manager of South-east Asia of BTG Outbound Tours. She said that Thailand bookings have been dropping for the summer holidays since Chinese parents do not view it as a family friendly destination. |
