|
19-Oct-2004 - |
XINJIANG Uygur Autonomous Region and China Southern Air Holding are seeking direct air services between Xinjiang and India to improve trade relations and tourism in both countries. Xinjiang chairman, Mr Ismail Tiliwaldi, said the region was keen on opening a direct air link between Kashgar and New Delhi that would take only two hours. He led a delegate from China to New Delhi for a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry to strengthen links between the two countries. China Southern president, Mr Li Jian, said: 'Demand for the India-China route is high...there is scope for more direct air links. We are looking at air links from Kashgar, Urumqi and Bejing to New Delhi.' He added a senior team from the airline would be visiting India soon to finalise routes and destinations. Urumqi's Civil Aviation Administration director, Mr Guan Wu Ping, said the air bilateral agreements needed to be changed in order to introduce the proposed direct flights for Xinjiang, which include return flights from Urumqi, Kashgar and Beijing to New Delhi. |
