Civil aviation ready for peak travel season
|
7-Jan-2004 - |
China's civil aviation sector is fully prepared for the upcoming Spring Festival peak travel season from Jan. 7 to Feb. 25, sources from General Administration of Civil Aviation (CAAC), the industry's watchdog, said. The CAAC has approved 7,434 extra, chartered and possible flights by airlines to meet the expected big rise in demand as throngs of tourists from big cities like Beijing and Shanghai visit Hong Kong and Macao as they did last year, said a CAAC official. During the seven-day holiday from Jan. 22 to 28, an average of 323 flights will be added daily, the official said, as more people are expected to holiday in China or to go abroad. He said the CAAC had required all aviation units to carry out comprehensive safety checks and forbid the use of aircraft, vehicles or equipment that fail to meet safety standards. Airline companies were also required to prepare for emergencies and properly arrange cargo transportation. |
