Although the National Day is still a week away, Shenzhen seems to have already taken on a festive atmosphere with a series of cultural activities planned.

Capturing the theme of blessing the beloved motherland, more than 500 cultural activities have been listed for National Day celebrations, involving 24,000 residents in the six districts.

The activities include performances, exhibitions, free films, parties in parks, lectures, quiz competitions and national flag raising ceremonies, said a report released by the municipal culture bureau Wednesday.

One of the highlights will be a grand show of more than 4,000 amateur performers at Shenzhen Gymnasium on the evening of Sept. 29. The performers will include 700 retirees.

A dance troupe from Shenzhen representing Guangdong Province will perform at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing on the National Day, while an art troupe of 33 performers will go to Egypt to stage six shows at a cultural exchange activity themed Chinese Culture in North Africa Egypt Culture Week. The Egypt tour will present folk music, dance and acrobatics to African audiences. Some cultural exchange activities will also be organized between Futian and Luohu districts and Hong Kong.

Unlike previous National Day celebrations, park parties will be another novelty this year.

More than 500,000 people are expected to join the celebrations.
