16-Sep-2004 - |
First China Tourism Forum on Latest Developments in China's Tourism will be held on 25 September 2004 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong PolyU) in part of 25th anniversary celebration of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM). The growth of China`s tourism has been spectacular since 1978 when the economic reforms and opening up policies were adopted. China`s travel and tourism industry has been recognized as one of the main drivers of the economy and contributed significantly to the country`s wealth and employment generation. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) predicts that China will become the largest tourism receiving country and the third largest generating country in 2020. This trend will undoubtedly have profound impacts on the world economy in general and on China`s neighbors including Hong Kong in particular. In recognizing the importance of China`s tourism industry, the SHTM at Hong Kong PolyU will present the First PolyU China Tourism Forum - Latest Development in China`s Tourism. Renowned academics and high level tourism industry executive from China and abroad will speak at the Forum on a wide range of issues related to China`s inbound and outbound tourism with a particular focus on policy. Among the featured speakers is Professor DU Jiang, President of Beijing International Studies University, who will present a keynote speech on Transformation of Functions and Policies of China`s Tourism Industry. Other speakers include Professor Stephen Witt of the University of Surrey, UK, Dr. Tim Gao, CEO of Teda Hotels Management Ltd in China, and Prof Haiyan Song from Hong Kong PolyU. Speakers will address the issues on the future trends of China tourism, foreign direct investment potentials in China's tourism sector, and hotel industry development in China. The Forum is expected to provide an ideal opportunity to learn about the latest development in China`s tourism. At this forum, China Tourism Research, a new bilingual journal edited and published by the SHTM at Hong Kong PolyU will also be launched. |
