Fitch optimistic about China economy

Fitch Ratings believes China's strong economic growth will sustain in 2007 despite of the slowdown of the US economy.
James McCormack, Fitch's head of Asia sovereigns, said at the international rating agency's Global Structured Finance Conference 2006 Asia held in Beijing on Nov.14 that China's economy would grow by 10.2 percent in 2006 and slow moderately to 9.5 percent in 2007.
He attributed the slight slowdown to the government's efforts on reining in the expansion of bank credit and investment spending over the two years.
The US economy is hit by its housing market and shows signs of slowdown, according to McCormack's perception. He also predicts a moderate slowdown of the euro zone and Asia-Pacific. But he thinks China's economy is resilient to the US slowdown and China's exports to the US remain robust.
Also on Tuesday the World Bank said in its quarterly China economy report that China's economy would rise at a pace of about 10.4 percent in 2006 and slow a bit to 9.6 percent in 2007.
The People's Bank of China, the central bank, forecasted in its monetary policy report the same day that the strong momentum would continue pushing the GDP up by more than 10 percent in 2006. However, it warns against the pressure of inflation due to the unsteady foundation of the fall on fixed asset investment and bank credit and the unbalanced international payment.
