Foreign Journalists Interested in New Changes of Beijing

On November 29, Vice Mayor Wang Guangtao introduced, to more than 50 reporters from more than 30 foreign press organizations stationed in Beijing, the circumstances of developments of protecting Beijing, an ancient city. He also made a brief introduction of the developments of transforming the old and dangerous houses in Beijing. Beijing is one of the most world-famous cultural ancient capitals. In the modernization construction courses of the city, it is very important to protect the history and culture of this ancient capital, to transform the old and dangerous houses, in order to increase the functions of Beijing, to improve its environment, to solve the problems of the settlement of the people and to show "New Beijing, Great Olympics" to the world. Since 1990s, Beijing has set five models to promote the work of transforming the old and dangerous houses by helping the work of the real estate, by strengthening the fundamental construction of the municipal administration infrastructure, by repairing and transforming the common houses controlled by the government, by organizing co-operations among the residents of Beijing and by preserving the cultural relics. Since 2000, Beijing government has set a new model of reforming the work of building apartments to help the work of transforming the old and dangerous houses because the work of transforming the old and dangerous houses has been developing step by step towards to the central area Beijing. It also has called to protect well the cultural traditions and history of Beijing and the entire pattern of the ancient capital, in the courses of planning, constructing and developing Beijing.(Beijing Daily). |
