BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- "Look at the website of Xinhua, you see the latest news, you see the gold medals and you see all the excitement of the Olympic games," said Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday.
Rogge made the remarks during his tour of the Xinhuanet office at the Main Press Center of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Accompanied by Chairman of the IOC's press commission Kevan Gosper and other IOC officials, Rogge was briefed on Xinhua's coverage of the current games by Peng Shujie, deputy editor-in-chief of Xinhua.
The IOC president said he was deeply impressed with Xinhua's Olympic coverage in terms of quantity as well as diversity, and expressed thanks for Xinhua's efforts.
On behalf of Xinhua's management, Peng Shujie thanked Rogge for his support and promised quality press services for worldwide media during their Games coverage.
IOC awarded Xinhua the Host News Agency of the 29th Olympic Games and also entrusted the Chinese wire service to set up the National Olympic Photographic Pool (NOPP).
Rogge read the Xinhuanet Beijing Olympics Special Report and gave an interview to Xinhuanet.
He spoke highly of the Xinhuanet's timely and comprehensive coverage of the Olympics.
When asked to say something to netizens, he said: "Look at the website of Xinhua, you see the latest news, you see the gold medals and you see all the excitement of the Olympic games."
