Indonesia to process visas in Guangzhou
|
16-Nov-2004 - |
THE Indonesian Consulate General in GuangZhou will open later this month to help process travellers' visa applications. The decision was made after a ministerial meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirajuda, Minister of Law and Human Rights Hamid Awaluddin and Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik yesterday. Minister Wacik said: "The immigration officials will take their post after the Lebaran (Muslim's end-of-fast) Holidays and start serving visa applicants." He expected the opening of the consulate general would increase the number of arrivals from China to Indonesia. The minister said out of the 20.2 million-trip China outbound market last year, Indonesia had received some 80,000 tourists. With the GuangZhou immigration services, he expected the number could increase to 400,00 per year as southern China was a major outbound market source. He said the current system where visas had to be approved in Beijing was holding back numbers. |
