UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in Beijing on Saturday, starting his five-day official visit to China. During his stay in Beijing, Annan is scheduled to meet with President Hu Jintao and other senior Chinese leaders. Discussions are expected to cover UN reform, including departmental restructuring and budgetary changes, and the implementation of Millennium Development Goals. Annan will also go on some field trips, including visits to a zoological village in rural Beijing and an AIDS consulting center, as well as the Chinese peacekeeping army training center. Students at Tsinghua University can look forward to hearing a speech from the head of the UN, who will also attend the 25th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the China-UN partnership. Precise dates and times of various activities were not released for security reasons. This is Annan's sixth China trip since he became UN chief in 1997.
