|

A light railway was put to a trial run Friday at Changchun, the capital of northeast China's Jilin Province. Formal operation will start next October, and it will then become China's first completed light railway, whose construction quality is up to international standard.
The 14.6-kilometer rail is expected to transport nearly 10,000 passengers at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
The first phase of the rail project will connect with three districts, shopping malls, entertainment parks, industrial regionsand residential complexes together, offering convenience to over 800,000 people living along the rail route.
Light rail is a high-speed, safe, pollution-free transportation method with a large passenger capacity. It will help populous cities like Beijing and Shanghai to alleviate cumbersome road transportation and establish a multi-dimensional traffic system, experts said.
Sources also show that China's capital Beijing will build 450 kilometers of rail networks in the next five years to improve urban transportation. |
