Macao places 5th among 200 Chinese cities in competitiveness

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) has given out a report ranking the comprehensive competitiveness of 200 Chinese cities, which places Macao on the 5th slot, according to the Special Administrative Region's (SAR) Statistics and Census Services recently. Based on the statistics of 2001, CASS analyzed economic indicators including market share, economic growth rate, GDP, per-capita income, and listed the rankings. The top 10 cities in regard of the overall city competitiveness are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, Macao, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Suzhou, Tianjin and Ningbo. Half of the cities are located in south China's Pearl River Delta Region. And among the top 50 cities, most are located in east China's Yangtze River Delta region, northeast China's pan-Bohai Sea region and the midwest region. In term of marketing competitiveness, the top three ranks are Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, which respectively won the rights to undertake events with international sensations -- the construction of Disney Amusement Park, the Olympic Games and the World Exposition. China's most attractive tourist regions are centered around three metropolitans, namely Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. |
