Macro-controls, A Long-term Task
|
7-Mar-2005 - China Radio International |
Ma Kai, minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, was speaking at a press conference in Beijing today (Monday). He said that macro intervention by the government and the basic role of the market in allocating resources reinforce each other. "So in that sense macro-economic regulation is a long term task. I don't think it will ever be abandoned, however, it might be re-adjusted in light of changing circumstances". Despite efforts to cool growth, the booming Chinese economy grew at a blistering pace of 9.5 percent last year after 9.3 percent in 2003. Ma Kai said that as China has addressed the old problems facing the economy, new ones were occurring, such as investment in fixed assets last year. China has made clear in recent months that ensuring the economy remains on a more even keel this year is crucial. |
