Provinces to Increase Water Supply to Capital
|
18-Feb-2003 - |
North China's Hebei and Shanxi provinces have promised to increase water supply to Beijing in the coming five years to meet demand for water in the Chinese capital. Officials attending a conference on the sustainable use of water resources in Beijing Tuesday unveiled the water supply target for the coming five years. According to the plan, based on average annual rainfall, the inflow to the Miyun Reservoir reserve in northeastern Beijing will reach 350 million cubic meters this year. The figure is twice as much as that of 2000. In addition, the inflow to the Guanting Reservoir in northwestern Beijing is expected to reach 250 million cubic meters. ? Much of the water supplies channeled to the two reservoirs come from adjacent areas in north China's Hebei and Shanxi provinces. |
