Rich harvest in tourism rung in Year of Monkey

Jan 28, the last day of the Golden Week, saw the majority of tourist sites return to normal. It ushered in the peak of returning tourists in transportation industry. The latest news release by the National Holiday Office showed that it had handled 157 cases of complaints regarding tourist services, which dropped 10 percent as compared with that in last Spring Festival Days. Of the complaints, 27 have things to do with transportation; 88 in regard with travel agencies and 42 are related to other issues. In general the tour market in the Spring Festival for Year of Monkey kept an integration of the four, namely good in "safety, order, quality and benefit".

Cities across China have begun to review the overall tour situation as of Jan 28. Shanghai has received 2.3843 million tourists during the holiday. The travel agencies received 1, 788 tour groups in all. The tour revenue hit 1.59 billion yuan, a rise of 8 percent over corresponding period of last year. The revenue of major commercial network rose by 18.8 percent while that for major catering trades increased by 7.9 percent. Beijing received 1.98 million tourists in all, a 5-percent rise as against the corresponding period of last year. 1.13 million Beijing people went sightseeing in the city from which the city received 230 million yuan, which was about the same with that in last Spring Festival Holiday. Beijing's travel agencies organized 28,000 outbound tourists, which was a rise of 8 percent over the corresponding period of last year, hitting a new record in history.

Statistics from Beijing Statistic Consulting Center showed that 98 percent of tourists were satisfied with their tours. Harbin earned 840 million yuan in the seven-day holiday, which was a 21 percent rise over the corresponding period of last year. The star hotels in the city were fully occupied and the sales earnings of department stores, supermarkets as well as catering industry soared at two digits.

Gardens in Wuxi received 1.25 million tourists in all, which was a 30 percent rise over that of the last spring festival holiday. The hotel occupancy averaged 70.2 percent, setting a new record in the city's history. From 22 to 28 January, 6.2627 million tourists entered Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The tour attractions in Shenzhen received 4.0583 million tourists, an 11 percent rise over the same period of last year. No major complaint against the tourist sites has so far been received in regard to safety problem. During the seven-day holiday, Travel agencies in Nanjing organized some 30,000 tourists in tour groups and received 42,000 tourists, a significant rise as compared to the corresponding period of last year. The number of tourists visiting Qufu Confucius Temple exceeded 100,000 for the first time. The city received tour revenue of 18.68 million yuan, a rise of 86.8 percent. Numerous tourists brought about big profit for the city's hotels, restaurants, commercial venues and parking lot for cars.
