Seven rivers in Beijing will join together
|

The seven lakes in Beijing, namely Kunyu River, Chang River, Zhuan River, Liangma (Landmark) River, the lakes in Chaoyang and Honglingjin parks, and Tonghui River will be joined together by 2008. By then, Beijing residents will not only be able to cruise between the two parks, they might also travel through all the seven rivers in one boat, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
The lakes in Chaoyang and Honglingjin parks are both located in the northeastern part of the city. Work to link the two lakes began in April this year and was completed last Sunday. A trench now joins the two lakes together.
The trench travels through the two lakes like a glistening silk string. It measures 1,823 meters in total length, among which 613 meters are newly built and the rest is the extension line of the main trench previously built in Dongzhimen. Two new stone boats are built along the trench for decoration. The project's modern style adds a new scenic landscape to the Chaoyang District and improves the aquatic environment for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The construction work was part of the city's project in Chaoyang that aims to improve the water environment in the area where the Beijing Olympic Games will be held. With this construction, the Beijing municipal government intends to build a water scenery spot in the city. There are eight arch bridges built across the trench. The balustrades of the three bridges near the Prince Jun Mansion (Jun Wang Fu) are built with white stone marbles in traditional ancient style and the balustrades for the other five bridges are built with green white stone marbles. |
