Shenzhen wants share of Hong Kong's mainland action

Shenzhen wants Beijing to issue multiple-entry permits to individual mainland travellers from other parts of China visiting Hong Kong so the well-heeled visitors can cross the border between the twin-cities. Now, once the mainlanders have visited Hong Kong, they cannot reenter the territory if they leave to visit Shenzhen. Shenzhen Tourism Administration is calling for multiple-entry permits to let tourists travel freely over the border. A tourist is allowed to take a maximum of RMB20,000 (US$2,000) out of China. Wealthy visitors from Shanghai and Beijing often complain this is not enough and that it is impossible for them to withdraw cash in Hong Kong. |
