Swiss calling on Chinese
|
18-Nov-2004 - |
SWISS tourism officials from Lake Geneva & Matterhorn Region (LGMR) will kick off a 10-day sales call to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Taipei tomorrow. Switzerland Tourism director Hong Kong and South China, Ms Casey Liu, said Switzerland enjoyed a good reputation in China and had recently become a Approved Destination Status (ADS) in September. "Cities such as Zurich and Geneva are hot picks. With the relaxed visa arrangement, we see more Chinese venturing into small towns such as Grindelwald and Engelberg. In this sales trip, we are visiting Shenzhen for the first time." Switzerland has also experienced a sharp rise of FIT business from Hong Kong. Ms Liu said: "In 1997, 90 per cent of travellers from Hong Kong came in groups. Then, FITs grew to 40 per cent recently. About 40,000 Hongkongers visited the country last year." |
