Technological Innovation to Lead China's Highway Development

As world communications march towards high technology and information, technological innovation will take the lead in China's highway development in the 21st century, said Zhang Chunxian, deputy minister of communications. Zhang made the remarks in Beijing recently at a national forum on technological innovation for highway construction, saying that it is vital for the communications sector to apply information technology to achieve technological progress and boost national economic growth. By 2005, China's technological level in the field of communications should reach that of developed countries at the end of the 20th century, according to Zhang. By 2010, the contribution rate of technological progress will be raised another 15 percentage points in the country's highway development. He noted that technologies in highway construction, transportation and network operation will be give special attention in the coming five to 15 years. The forum, the first of its kind in China, is held in Beijing from May 31 to June 2. |
