Tertiary business sales exceeds $125 bln in Beijing

Beijing's wholesale, retail and catering trade sales were found to top one trillion yuan (about 125 billion U.S. dollars) in 2004 in China's first national economics survey, according to Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.
The trade sales is about 3.8 times the figure for 1998, when an economics survey was carried out in the national capital city.
The city reported about 7,9600 corporate enterprises on wholesale, retail and catering services at the end of 2004, making up 31.1 percent of Beijing municipal corporate enterprises.
About 1 million people were employed in the whole sale, retail and catering trades, 14.9 percent of the total work force in the second and tertiary industries.
The wholesale, retail and catering enterprises reported 824.61 billion yuan (103 billion U.S. dollars) of assets, including 98.3 percent in wholesale and retails and 1.7 percent in catering trade.
The enterprises on these three service trades raked in 21.87 billion yuan (2.73 billion U.S. dollars) of profits in 2004.
The first-ever national economic survey, which formally began on Dec. 31, 2004, was jointly published by the leading group of the First National Economic Census of the State Council and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
