US to open energy office in China

The Chinese government and the US government held their first energy policy dialogue in Washington on June 30. US Energy Secretary Sam Bodman and Zhang Guobao, Vice Minister of Chinese National Development and Reform Commission, presided over the dialogue. The US Department of Energy announced on the same day the opening of an office in Beijing aiming to strengthen cooperation on energy and nuclear energy security between the two countries. It is reported that during the dialogue the two sides discussed cooperation in the energy area, including in clean energy, oil and natural gas, nuclear power, energy saving and energy use efficiency etc. US Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said while announcing the news that the United States and China maintain constructive relations on various issues including energy and nuclear energy security. Through energy policy dialogue and the on-the-spot help offered by the new office the two countries could strengthen cooperation in areas such as improving energy use efficiency, diversification of energy supply and expanding clean energy utilization, and continue to make joint effort to enhance nuclear energy security in the two countries. The new office will be set up within the US Embassy in Beijing. |
